Sometimes in life – we just catch crap.

Sometimes we can help it, and sometimes we can’t.

Sometimes we can look back on past experiences and say, “If only I had paid more attention during that honors chemistry class…” or some other magic moment of hindsight.

And other times no amount of time travel would have prevented us being caught by complete surprise.

What I can only assume is wild yeast has decided to colonize my rudimentary violet extract which I was attempting to make perfume with.

As though that weren’t enough, I instinctively decided to smell said “wild yeast” which had managed to colonize the flower-laden Everclear. Without knowing exactly what this fungus is, I can imagine that the only thing worse would be aerating it in a perfume bottle.

Crud just pops up sometimes.

Sometimes that crud will make us toss out our experiments and start fresh, and other times we may find that uninvited intrusion was helpful in some way.

For all I know, this could even be good for the perfume – but it’s going to be a significant time sink to find out.

When we’re learning, it’s hard to know who or what will be along for the ride, and how it will help or hurt our goals.

That’s true in the garden, and in life.

I wish you light loads and long meaningful journeys.
