It’s so easy to be impatient.

I’m guilty, big time.

But these mulberry trees reminded me, that things fruit when they’re ready.

I bought four mulberry trees as tiny little sticks off Amazon for my husband’s birthday in 2020.

Last year, despite the trees having grown substantially, over 10 feet tall, they barely made any fruit.

Since they were labeled as ever-bearing, I hoped all last spring and summer that they would put on more fruit, but short of one or two random berries, they never did.

Thinking they surely they were large enough to be fruiting, we went out in the cold spring and pruned the overgrown brush.

This year, these trees are absolutely laden with fruit.

We’ve seen excellent pollination, largely thanks to the wind that blows strong at the top of our hill, but even the mosquitos we’ve seen moving tree to tree have helped the flowers come to fruit.

It just goes to show you that even when it looks like the payoff is right around the corner, sometimes it just takes a little longer than we expect…

But when you hit that magic moment, there may just be more fruit than you can eat.

So if your plants or your projects aren’t baring, just keep pruning off those dying limbs, know that sometimes even blood sucking fiends can help things grow, be patient and maintain the course.

It will fruit when it’s time.
