Life as a farmer or gardener (or even as an Excommunicated Market Gardener) is not always pretty.
We often have other things stealing our time and attention, and our land shows signs of that neglect.
Our property, once delicately laid out in 30 inch beds and 50 foot rows is now overtaken by weeds. Only a few hardy perennials have survived the onslaught. Despite selective spraying and hand weeding, we are losing the battle – there’s just only so much time in the day.
Still, as I sat in the perfect rainstorm yesterday, I was stricken not by all the work that still lays ahead in getting the garden up snuff, but by the beauty all around me.
Life is like that, too.
It’s not all weeds and work.
It’s also not all rainbows and sunshine, (or even warm gentle rain showers).
It’s everything at once.
Sometimes, we need to see the glory of it all.
And sometimes we need to see the flaws.
But most of the time, what we really need is a little objectivity.
So take it all in.
It can be both ugly, and beautiful, at once.
